I am heading to Texas for our annual 4th of July Trip tubing the Frio River. It is a fantastic trip with about 20 friends (and some kids) and we rent a large house and spend all our time hanging out and tubing down the river. We even have a website, www.tubinthe4th.com, which we have yet to fully populate. I look forward to the trip every year.
Unfortunately, it has not quit raining in Texas. On one hand this is good, because it means the river will be flowing. On the other hand it brings back memories of when we headed to Concan, Texas in 2002 and got caught in the great 100 year flood. WE trusted the weather men who claimed it was going to stop raining.
I thought I would give you a few pictures from the 2002 flood. We crossed a bridge to get to the House we had that year and then the river rose so high above the bridge, we couldn’t cross to get out for a day or two. We saw a Truck washed down the river. And I am embarrassed to admit, I tubed that river..once. I realized it was one of the dumbest things I have ever done when I whizzed by a dead cow in a tree and it only took me 10 minutes to float the whole river. But we made it back, alive.
Here are a few photos:
The view from our front Porch. The River was suppose to be on the other side of those trees.
The Truck that washed down the river. It is actually sitting in what used to be a parking lot for people going tubing. He is not even in the normal river.
This was the Truck when the water finally receded.
Tubing along the side of our house.
This was the old Fire truck that took some people to freedom.
We actually ended up taking all the cases of Beer we had and using it as a barricade to block the water from coming in our house. We had 20 people in a house for 14, along with 6 dogs and 2 kids under the age of 2. It was a little cramped, but we had a GREAT time.
So, everybody think happy thoughts and pray for it to quit raining, just for a few days.
