And no, I am not talking about Obama’s speech tonight or McCain’s announcement of his VP pick tomorrow. I am talking about the BTHO Melanoma Event!
I am getting very excited…the BTHO Melanoma Benefit is coming up in two weeks and Angie had done a FANTASTIC job! You should see all the great auction items we have and all the fun stuff for people to do at the event (air brush tattoos!). Check out the auction items. Lots of great stuff to bid on! We are also raffling off a Wii. Are you one of the few people who don’t have a Wii? Well, you can buy a ticket for $5 or 5 for $20. J (If you are interested, let me know).
In fact, Angie has done such a great job she even lined up a TV appearance to promote the event! In exchange for filling the audience with FFOJ’s (Family & Friends of Julie) they taped a public service announcement about the event. Dr. Mary Garman (who just happens to be a friend of mine’s little sister…I still can’t believe she is a Doctor! Wasn’t it just yesterday we were watching her leave for the 8th grade dance?) was our spokes person today and we filmed a short Public Service Announcement about Melanoma and our upcoming event. You are going to be able to see it on Great Day Houston next Friday!
This was a great event last year and we raised $12,000. All proceeds from this event will go into Julie’s foundation. It was Julie’s hope that we would be able to give a yearly grant to a family in a similar situation to her on the Melanoma floor at M.D. Anderson.
I wrote about what a great event it was last year. The thing I can’t get over is how this whole thing started. Last year it was Julie’s brother and my brother coming up with an idea. Now if you know Joe & Rob then you know why we weren’t so sure what kind of “fundraiser” we would be having. Now there is a whole crew of people working on this event and it is going to be so much fun!
So, if you are in Houston, come on down to Clear Lake and join us. You can find out more information about this event on our website: www.bthomelanoma.com . There will be lots of stuff for the kids to enjoy.
